The story
behind Altruist

It started with a question

Altruist was founded in 2018 by advisor and entrepreneur Jason Wenk.

Growing up, Jason saw early on how stressful finances could be. He remembers asking his mom why she couldn’t “just write a check” when money was tight—and learning that it wasn’t that simple.

That moment stayed with Jason. After studying computer science and starting his career at Morgan Stanley, Jason launched his own independent advisory firm in 2004, driven by the conviction that everyone deserves to feel financially secure.

Seeing the problem up close

Jason’s firm grew to become one of the fastest-growing in the industry with multiple billions in client assets. But with that growth came a new set of challenges: Paper-heavy workflows, slow funding, NIGOs, manual processes, and systems built decades earlier were all eating into the time Jason wanted to spend with clients.

On top of that, traditional custodians charged extraneous fees advisors couldn’t get around, making it nearly impossible to lower prices for clients, even when Jason wanted to.

He knew there was a better way.

From a belief to a platform

In 2018, Jason built a small team of engineers and former advisors with a single focus: Give advisors the right tools to do their best work.

From a modest office in Culver City, they grew from the ground up, becoming a broker-dealer, developing self-clearing capabilities, and creating a single, intuitive platform that could handle everything from onboarding to reporting.

Gaining
momentum

Within a few years, thousands of advisors had moved assets to Altruist and the team grew from a handful to hundreds.

Altruist went on to raise more than $600 million from investors, including Insight Partners, ICONIQ, GIC, Venrock, Vanguard, and Salesforce Ventures. In 2025, Altruist closed a $152 million Series F at a $1.9 billion valuation.

In 2026, the company’s AI-powered tax planning tool shifted an estimated $20 billion in market value in a single day—a sign of an industry hungry for change.

Today, Altruist keeps building, releasing new products at a relentless pace that help advisors plan deeper, operate leaner, and serve more clients.
