Frequently
asked
questions
What options strategies does Altruist support?
Altruist supports covered calls and cash-secured puts through our options trading tools. Altruist lets advisors construct and execute positions across eligible client accounts in a single workflow.
What features do advisors typically look for in an options trading platform?
Advisors and professional options traders may look for a seamless trading experience.
That means an intuitive desktop and mobile app (where clients can see their options holidings), access to key market data and greeks when evaluating options chains, block trading across client accounts, and account eligibility validation.
Advisors may also confirm the brokerage is a FINRA and SIPC member, which you can verify on FINRA’s BrokerCheck. Altruist includes all of these in one platform.
Which broker has the lowest options contract fees?
Among major brokers, Altruist charges $0.50 per contract, lower than Fidelity ($0.65) and Charles Schwab ($0.65).
Can I trade options across multiple client accounts at once?
Yes. Altruist’s block trading workflow lets advisors execute options trades across multiple eligible client accounts in a single workflow.
Who is Altruist’s options trading best for?
Altruist’s options trading is built for:
- Established advisors and active traders running strategies across a large book.
- Wealth managers looking to expand their service offering with options strategies for higher-net-worth clients.
- Fee-conscious firms that are tired of paying $0.65 per-contract fees at Fidelity and Schwab. Altruist charges $0.50 per contract.
What are the benefits of options trading for advisors and their clients?
Options strategies give advisors the trading tools to generate income, manage risk, and tailor investment strategies to individual client goals. This can help you deepen client relationships and differentiate your practice, all without adding a new platform if you’re already on Altruist.
What are the risks of options trading?
Options can be used for income generation or risk management, but each strategy comes with tradeoffs. For covered calls, if the underlying stock rises sharply above the strike, the seller may miss out on gains above that price. For cash-secured puts, if the underlying falls significantly below the strike, the seller is obligated to purchase shares at a price above market value.
Options trading involves significant risk and may not be appropriate for all investors. Options transactions are often complex and may involve the potential loss of the entire amount invested. Under certain market conditions, it may be difficult or impossible to liquidate an options position quickly at a reasonable price. Investors should be aware that options trading may obligate them to take delivery of the underlying security, and they may be restricted from selling shares of the underlying security held to cover options positions. Trading fees may apply. View the Altruist Financial LLC Fee Schedule for additional information. Past performance of a security or financial product does not guarantee future results. Prior to enabling or trading options, please read the Characteristics and Risks of Standardized Options.
